Preston Nelson | Ciroc

Ciroc

After much conversation, i figured what do most college kids use on a weekly basis, the answer was simple alcohol. Over the weekend i purchased a bottle of ciroc and took notice to the various details thourughout the bottle. The main logo of Ciroc is Akzidenz Grotesk Extended. It is a thinner typeface with flat terminals that you can see on the C. Also a noticeable feature is in the stem of the R, which is very long.

Poor Advice: Book Cover Design

I’ve received great news this past week! The book cover I designed for the local teacher in town is already on pre-order. I had such an amazing experience working with Lou Gaglia. This project was also my first one on one client experience. Although we probably went through the process a little slower than usual due to learning how the publishing aspect works as well, we I was still able to complete the cover in just a few short months. The book is comprised of short stories and I wanted the cover to reflect this. I choose to incorporate as many stories as I could in the illustration. The color scheme was chosen by Lou and I enjoy how it makes the stories blend together even though in reality they are all very different. This experience has taught me a lot and shown me the importance of research and creating documents to be “print-ready” I hope to make some more book covers in the future.

Package Design: Yogi Tea

For a class project I re-designed the packaging of yogi teas. It’s not the I didn’t like the previous packaging but I thought it could use some updates and modern design touches. I kept the same logo and colors so the brand identity could still be recognized. I simplified the layout adding a stripe of color to indicate the change in flavors, and choose a very light grey color for the main surface to give it a clean, fresher feel. I also decided on giving it a new hexagonal shape to give it more shelf appeal and grab costumers attention.

Online Portfolio: Mau Margo

Mau Margo Studio seemed to have modern designs that stood out to me among the rest. A lot of them had movement and played with your eyes in an optical illusion sort of way, which I enjoyed. They had links to all of their works as well as ways to download apps for your iphone to see all the designs. I could not find the exact price it was to post. But I liked that on the side there were links to their instagram, Facebook, and email so it is very easy to follow the studio and get in touch with them. http://www.maumorgo.com.

Whilst searching cargo.com, I can across a lot of innovative art work; though this one seemed to stick out. This piece of work is called ” Sexual Love” and it’s really beautiful and new and this site is great for promoting it! The only catch is you can’t just automatically sign up, you have to email them and then be approved. So, other than a little start up inconvenience i believe this site is great for unknown artists to get recognition; as well sell their artwork. When you click on ” prints” in a lot of their sites, there’s an option to email the artist directly and talk about listing prices and what not, which i think is a really awesome opportunity for any artist to make commission on their work.

Online Portfolio: Friendwithyou art collective

Friendswithyou art collective is a collaboration between artists Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III. This collective has the sole purpose of spreading the message of friendship, luck, and magic through their work. The work is all happy and fun. It’s a great escape from the negativity that we see a lot on the news and around us in the world everyday. This collective reminds us to be happy and love each other. I love this collective although I don’t know a whole lot about them, I follow them on twitter and often browse their portfolio. This seems like something I could come up with if I had all the happniess, resources, and money that these guys have which allows them to think on such a large and tangible scale. I think that’s another reason I love this collective so much. It feels like somewhere I could go in life and be happy. I hope I can create things on this scale one day. I also love art that feels like love, friendship, and magic. These guys “redefine spiritual connection through fine art.” I hope to be as happy and free within my own field of creating one day. These guys give me hope as an artist and a person and make me feel love. So awesome! Check out their full portfolio here: http://friendswithyou.com/portfolios/
